The ‘Frogeye’ Sprite – A characterful and nimble staple of the classic British sports car world. Loved for its lightweight and easy-revving engine, it has caught the eye of hardcore backroad racers and easy Sunday drivers alike for over 60 years.
And now you could win this incredible 1958 Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite! Finished in maroon with a beige leather interior, with an old English white hardtop adorned with the Union Jack – This is a cracking bitesized bruiser.
The car was originally shipped in October 1958 in full US spec before being returned to the UK and converted to RHD in the early 1960s. Before benefiting from recent restoration works, the car was originally Old English White with a Cherry Red interior as confirmed by its certified factory record from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust dated 2017. Running gear and engine upgrades were apparently carried out after it was bought by its previous owner, to make it more usable on modern roads.
Our 1958 Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite is fitted with a 1275cc 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed gearbox and has had the much sought-after front disc brake upgrade carried out by its previous owner (an option not available until the 1961 MkII).
The vehicle’s history file comes with MOT certificates dating back to the 2008 and is fitted with a much more accurate electronic tachometer inside its luxuriously retrimmed cabin. Also in the file are original handbooks, special tuning manuals and sales posters.
