Description

Ford has a long and successful history in the world of rallying, and this eye-catching recreation can be your very own nod to one of the most successful Ford rally cars ever made.

In 1968, the all-new Ford Escort was released. At the same time, a 16,000-mile rally between London and Mexico was organised. This was to coincide with the next football world cup being held in Mexico (1970) and the current holders being England, who won in 1966.

During this period, the Ford rally team was pretty much unbeatable, and the Escort won the London to Mexico rally as well as taking 6 of the top 10 places in the event. As a result of this resounding success, a new model bearing the name Mexico was released to celebrate the achievement. The Escort Mexico was first introduced in November 1970 with just over 10,000 Mark 1s being built. This new model featured many upgrades, including additional strengthening panels in high-stress areas which made the Mexico even more suitable for competition.

Our 1971 Ford Escort RS Mexico Recreation (manufactured in 1971 and first registered in 1972) began its life as a standard Ford Escort before undergoing a stunning transformation between 2010 – 2014. It has been rebuilt with the 1600 Mexico specification crossflow engine and it has also been lightened and balanced with a sports exhaust manifold and system.

It features multiple RS style touches such as the wheels (fitted with low profile tyres), steering wheel, 6-dial clocks, and the beta cloth contour seats.

A full re-paint was completed by Hilton Gott Bodyshop during the rebuild process, changing the vehicle from its maroon colour to its new eye-catching Le Mans green. To highlight the standard that this recreation has been finished to, it was voted ‘best car’ at the 2014 Kings Lynn and District Motor Club show.
