Description

Based on the R8 200/400 Series, under the code name ‘Tomcat’, the Rover Coupe was launched at the Paris Motor Show on 6th October 1992. Of all versions available, the most powerful was the 220 Turbo. It was hailed as one of the most powerful production Rovers ever built and boasted 197bhp allowing it to get up to just shy of 150mph and cover 0-60 in six and a half seconds.

The Rover 220 Turbo became a mainstay of the coupe market throughout the 1990s – not only for its performance capabilities but also its styling and competitive price point. There is now a loyal following for these fast Rovers, and our one has certainly caught the attention of us here in the workshop.

Our 1996 Rover 220 Turbo was part of the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. It joined hundreds of other Rovers that had been built in the city as they recreated a Union Jack using blue, white, and red cars.

After undergoing a full re-paint in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop, our 220 Turbo is finished in eye-catching Polynesian Turquoise and finished to an extremely high standard.

With just under 74,000 miles on the clock, the 2-litre engine has plenty of life and power left in it and the new owner is sure to have a lot of fun with this!
