The Rover Metro Cabriolet 114, also known as the Rover 100 Cabriolet or Rover 114 Cabriolet, is a convertible variant of the Rover Metro (also known as the Rover 100 series). It was introduced to offer a stylish and open-top version of the popular Metro hatchback and as a replacement for the long-running and successful Mini.
Initially built as one of the Rover Special Products (RSP), built at Longbridge, in the same way as the Mini Cabriolet in that it was slotted in and out of the regular model production process wherever possible, so it benefitted from all of the proper priming and paint processes. The production of the Metro Cabriolet spanned 18 years and is now a rare sight with only around 20 still registered on UK roads.
Engineering-wise, the Cabriolet version was based upon the platform of the five-door model. Interestingly, at the time, the petrol cap was under a flap and not the simpler disc-style exposed item as used on the three-door hatchback. A quirky addition at the time of release.
This particular example has covered 93,000 miles and comes with a history file containing past MOT certificates and invoices. It also comes with the owner’s book, sales brochure, and a Haynes manual.
As you can see from the photos, it is in good condition but would benefit from some care and maintenance.
This particular example has come to us through a bereavement sale.
Although it drives well, and gearbox is fine, it will require various items to get it through an MOT. None of which are expensive items and fully within the scope of a home enthusiast.
Please do not ask ourselves to put the car through an MOT, as our restoration workshops are busy until 2025 or otherwise we would carry out the work and would be looking for a higher price than we are today.
